Next edition — Sep 1–3, 2027 (CONFIRMED)
Owara Kaze no Bon is a neighbourhood dance festival in Yatsuo, south of Toyama. Musicians and straw-hatted dancers move through the old streets, with each district keeping its own character. Go for the music and measured pace rather than a loud parade. Toyama is a practical sleeping base, provided you plan the return before roaming between districts.
How the date is set — Annual late-summer festival; district notices give the local dance schedule. Read the edition's transport information separately.
How often it runs — Held annually. Rain normally stops outdoor dancing; districts decide whether to resume.
Goes first — Choose the evening whose district programme suits you, then protect its return journey.
Act by — Arrange your bed once you choose the festival evening, before adding a late-night viewing plan.
The tourism association says Yatsuo has only a few lodgings and that local and nearby accommodation is reserved relatively early.

A sold-out listing may reopen after a cancellation or an additional room release. 空きウォッチ Aki checks Rakuten Travel for new openings, so you can act when one appears.
Watch the rooms — free, no account
Owara's appeal is the sound of the musicians beside the dancers. Choose a district, find a permitted place to stand and give the group time to arrive. Quiet viewing and restrained photography suit the streets better than moving between every possible scene.
Check in and eat before travelling to Yatsuo. Decide which train you need home, including a connection if sleeping in Takaoka. Leave time for the walk back to Etchu-Yatsuo instead of treating the edge of the festival as the station.
Watch the neighbourhood processions. For a circle dance, ask the district before joining; participation arrangements differ between districts.
Watching for free — The streets are the main viewing setting. Read the schedule posted at each district's community centre instead of expecting a single fixed parade timetable.
How hard it actually is — Yatsuo has few places to sleep. Start with Toyama, then consider Takaoka if the transfer works. The festival streets are reached on foot and the town has no luggage deposit: leave a suitcase at your hotel before travelling to Etchu-Yatsuo.
What a night costs — Street viewing does not require a seat ticket. Compare the room plus rail fares; indoor performances and other paid options are advertised separately.
