Hachinohe — Local rail from Aomori to Shin-Aomori, then the Tohoku Shinkansen to Hachinohe; add transfer and hotel-access time. Check the Aomori-Shin-Aomori connection and last southbound Shinkansen to Hachinohe for your date, allowing time from the parade and onward to the hotel. A separate city base whose usefulness depends on the full return connection.

Hirosaki — JR Ou Line between Aomori and Hirosaki; check the service for your date. Confirm the event-night departure and time to leave the parade and enter the station; do not assume it runs later than another line. A castle-town base to compare for room availability and the return journey.

Know before you go

Accommodation and the post-parade return both need planning. Compare actual rooms and allow time for station queues. Bad fit for: Travellers with no stay or workable return connection.

The organiser's temporary campsite does not allow sleeping in cars in its parking area. Check the next edition's campsite operation and rules before planning an overnight stay. Bad fit for: Drivers assuming any event parking space can be an overnight bed.

Dancing as a haneto means up to two hours in a crowd, at night, in August humidity, in a full costume. It is genuinely physical. Bad fit for: Anyone with limited mobility or heat sensitivity — watch instead, it is still extraordinary.

What regulars do

Allow time to collect the physical ticket before entering the paid area. In 2026 overseas tickets were issued at Japanese 7-Eleven stores from 30 July at 10:00 JST; the email alone did not grant entry. A same-day arrival needs enough collection and travel time.
