Next edition — Date not announced yet (UNANNOUNCED)
Lake Biwa's fireworks launch off Otsu's waterfront, spreading light across the lake beside the city. It is a workable addition to a Kyoto and Shiga trip if you choose the viewing area and return route together. Lakefront accommodation is convenient, but you can also compare Kyoto or Kusatsu. A normal rail connection does not remove the queue after the show.
How the date is set — The organiser announces the summer date each year; it is not a fixed annual day.
How often it runs — Annual summer fireworks, subject to the next edition's confirmation.
Goes first — The confirmed fireworks night in Otsu; compare nearby rail bases if lakefront plans do not suit you.
Act by — After the date is confirmed, compare cancellable accommodation before applying for the viewing seats.
The organiser's 2026 announcement published the event date and advance ticket stages separately. Use the next edition's announcement to plan the stay and seat purchase.

A sold-out listing may reopen after a cancellation or an additional room release. 空きウォッチ Aki checks Rakuten Travel for new openings, so you can act when one appears.
Watch the rooms — free, no account
The fireworks stretch across the Otsu waterfront rather than one small square. Your ticket area's walking route decides which station works. Save the organiser's map before travelling and use its routes rather than treating every lakeside street as a public viewing area.
A Kyoto stay can keep a longer itinerary simple. Kusatsu is another rail direction to compare. Both require a departure you can reach after the crowd leaves the shore. Staying in Otsu reduces the rail journey, but check where the hotel lies in relation to your viewing area.
Use the organiser's authorised ticket links for the next edition. Match your viewing area to its current station and walking-route map; the 2026 traffic map is background, not a new access plan.

Watching for free — Check the next edition's map for permitted public areas. Do not rely on an old article's free-viewing spot or assume a lakeside path will be accessible.
How hard it actually is — Choose a bed and a viewing place separately. A hotel somewhere on Lake Biwa need not overlook the launch area in Otsu. 空きウォッチ Aki checks selected Shiga areas on Rakuten Travel; Kyoto is a separate accommodation search and is not covered by this event's hotel checks.
What a night costs — Compare full hotel totals and viewing-seat costs; a lakefront address is not a guarantee of a room facing the launch area.
