Next edition — Date not announced yet (UNANNOUNCED)
Crowd size — 123,500 visits over four days · 2026
Fuji Rock Festival fills Naeba Ski Resort in Yuzawa, Niigata, over a Friday-to-Sunday in late July, with stages spread through the forest and music into the small hours. It suits campers and anyone who books a bed first: no public transport runs after the last set, so you sleep at the campsite, in Naeba or Yuzawa, or ride an overnight tour bus.
How the date is set — A Friday-to-Sunday in late July: every edition from 2022 to 2026 began on a Friday between 24 and 29 July. FRF'26 dates were published with early-bird tickets on 30 January 2026. FRF'27 dates have not been announced; the organiser's last post of the 2026 season, on 7 August, promised a return to Naeba.
How often it runs — Held every summer since 1997 except 2020, and at Naeba since 1999; 2026 was the 29th edition. A free eve party on the Thursday opened the 2026 festival.
Goes first — Saturday night goes first: in 2026 Saturday drew the biggest crowd, 38,000, and its advance day tickets sold out first, on 17 April. With no way home after the last set, each day's crowd needs a bed that night; Sunday drew 35,500 and Friday 34,000. Arrive on Thursday only for the free eve party.
Act by — When FRF'27 is announced: if you live in Japan, apply for Naeba rooms through the official tour centre; if you do not, use the GAN-BAN shop's overseas plans. Either way, hold a cancellable room in Yuzawa at the same time.
In 2026 the dates and early-bird tickets came on 30 January, the lottery for the Naeba Prince Hotel and Naeba-Asagai guesthouses ran 20–24 February, and every plan went on sale first-come from 6 March.

A sold-out listing may reopen after a cancellation or an additional room release. 空きウォッチ Aki checks Rakuten Travel for new openings, so you can act when one appears.

The main GREEN STAGE has a large screen so the whole wide field can follow it. WHITE STAGE books cutting-edge acts and has had to stop people getting in. RED MARQUEE, the only indoor stage, is a red-roofed tent that hosts bands from newcomers to veterans, then live sets and DJs from late at night until morning. FIELD OF HEAVEN sits among trees and turns to mirror balls after dark.
Outside the gate, THE PALACE OF WONDER needs no ticket and keeps an Art Deco tent of bars and a dance floor. In 2026 more than 180 acts played to 123,500 visits over four days.
The first Fuji Rock, in July 1997, was held at Fuji Tenjinyama Ski Resort. A typhoon cancelled the second day, but 30,000 people stood through the wind and rain of the first.
In 1999 the festival moved to the grounds around Naeba Ski Resort and grew to three days. That year 300 young volunteers ran a rubbish campaign that earned it a name abroad as a clean festival, and sorted-rubbish rules remain part of every visit.
Camping is the nearest and cheapest bed. Each camper needs a campsite ticket and brings a tent; in 2026 the ticket cost ¥6,000 for the whole festival. The pitches are on the ski slopes, so they tilt, and there is a women-only area, a help desk run by outdoor professionals and showers for campers.
You can leave your tent while you watch the bands; keep valuables with you. The organiser notes that every year many campers cannot find their tent again among rows of similar ones, so mark yours.
Entry needs a festival ticket, exchanged for a wristband at the venue; in 2026 children aged 15 and under went free with a parent or guardian, with photo ID showing the child's age.

Watching for free — In 2026 the Thursday eve party, with bon-odori, fireworks and a late gig, was free to enter, and THE PALACE OF WONDER area before the gate needed no ticket.
How hard it actually is — The nearest beds are the campsite and the Naeba hotel and guesthouses that the official tour centre sells; it warns that rooms for two and places close to the venue fill early, and it books only people with a home address in Japan. Echigo-Yuzawa, 40 minutes away by shuttle, has more hotels and onsen inns. 空きウォッチ Aki checks well-rated hotels and onsen inns listed on Rakuten Travel in the Echigo-Yuzawa and Naeba area, not tour-centre plans or campsites.
What a night costs — FRF'27 prices are not out. For reference, in 2026 a three-day ticket cost ¥49,800 early-bird and ¥59,000 at general sale, a campsite ticket ¥6,000 and the Echigo-Yuzawa shuttle ¥2,000 return; add the room to that total.
